Skydive Dubai, sits on the beach next to Jumeirah Beach Walk, had its first “Dubai IPC & Gulf Cup” competition in the beginning of January of 2010 and was now its 2nd Edition in January 5th to 17th, 2011.  After the big success of the event last year, Youssef Hassan AI-Hamadi, chairman of the organizing committee for the championship and president of the Emirates Aviation Association (EAA), registered 400 athletes from 41 countries in three disciplines: Accuracy Landing, Skydiving Formation (4-Way) and Canopy Piloting (swooping).

Dubai, Capital city of Emirate of Dubai, with approximately 1,771,000 inhabitants, is one of the most populous of the seven United Arab Emirates and is located along the southern part of the Arabian Gulf (locally known as the Persian Gulf) in the Arabian Peninsula.  The UAE has a sub tropical, arid climate with beautiful sunny blue skies most of the year.  Between the months of November and March a moderate warm climate prevails during the day and a slightly cool climate throughout the night.  Humidity tends to get higher between the months of June and2August.

Over the past year, Dubai has opened a new skydiving drop zone, (www.SkyiveDubai.ea) a skydiving school and a skydiving team FAZZA3, led by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Makhtoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, who is a skydiver himself with 500 jumps.

Skydive Dubai is obviously an amazing Drop Zone!  And definitely it has the most beautiful aerial views of the world:  The Palm Jumeira Artificial Island, a residential and touristic complex on the sea, home of the Atlantis Resort owned by Donald Trump and the futuristic architecture of the buildings at Dubai Marina shore.

An amazing all inclusive championship fee of $ 700.00 per person ($ 1,200 for companion), included accommodation in luxury five star hotels, all meals from diner at arrival day to breakfast at departure day, transport from and to the airport, local transportation, wonderful shows in the opening & closing ceremonies, social and cultural events, two evening banquets and bus city tour, all competition jumps and also one official training (orientation) jump.

During the competition fulltime DZ facilities and professional rigging service were provided at a reasonable fee.  A public addressing system and big screens were available for the teams, judges and the general public.  A certified and experienced team of world renowned FAI judges was also made available.

With a generous $ 320,000 in Prize and USD 100,000 Photo Contest, the event has been quoted as one of the largest encounters of the worldwide skydiving community with largest payouts in skydiving history.  It counted with total coverage of the UAE press and media, with articles printed on the front pages of the most popular newspapers and magazines of the country, radio news & TV at Dubai Sports Channel programs.  All the city of Dubai was decorated with Billboards skydiving Advertising.  Posters, flags, and flyers were spread in the airport, avenues, malls, bars, hotels, metro stations… taxi wraps and public bus wraps have been dressing up the city.

The details were carefully managed by the organizers and the mega event was impressive!  The infrastructure and the weather conditions were perfect.  The immensity of blue skies, the green and blue crystal clear waters of the Arabian Gulf, with the local temperature averaging 74F/ 23 °C and the sunshine, made a great combination for all modalities of the event.

The drop zone skies were busy with jumpers and air shows.  Two Bell 212 Helicopters alternated take offs for accuracy landing athletes and canopy pilots.  FS teams went jumping out of the Twin Otter and the Skyvan all day long.

In the Individual Accuracy Landing (IAL), Hynek Tabor, (Czech Republic), Vedmoch Jindrich, (Czech Republic), and Salkic Senad, (Slovenia), got the top three positions.  Olga Lepezina, (Russia), is the champion in the women’s competition.  Her teammate, Elena Llaktionova, got the silver and Zimina Natalia, (Belarus), won the bronze.  In the Accuracy Landing Teams (ALT), Russian, got the gold, Belarus, the silver and Poland, won the bronze.

In Formation Skydiving, Belgium Team Hyabusa, got the gold, France-1 won silver and US Arizona Airspeed, took the bronze back home.  In Formation Skydiving Female, France took the gold, USA Team silver and the Russian Female Team, got the bronze.

In canopy piloting, the overall standings champion was Jay Moledzki, (CAN), Jonathan Tagle, (USA), in second and Skydive Dubai pilot Marat Leiras, (UAE), in third position.  In Distance Standings modality:  Greg Windmiller, (USA), gold, Jonathan Tagle, (USA), silver and Christian Wagner, (AUT), bronze.  In Speed Standings, Marat Leirias, (UAE), proved to be the fastest taking the gold under a fierce dispute with Jay Moledzki, (CAN), who got silver and Nick Batsch, (USA), got bronze.  In Accuracy Standing; Jay Moledzki, (CAN), won gold, Warren Cleary, (USA), silver and Bo Wienberg, (DEN), bronze.

Canopy Piloting is getting bigger and busier.  Freestyle, the newest category in the modality, made two very exciting experimental rounds and seems to be the sensation of the next year’s championship.  For that Skydive Dubai made a big investment to build a one of a kind specially designed swoop pond with bleachers for the public.

A great aerobatic show complimented the event, with two presentations along the week during the afternoon and also in an evening flight with LED lights on the wings. The five times Guinness Book record-breaker and world acrobatic champion Captain Zoltan Veres from Hungary and his Team, showed a breath taking performance with 3 aerobatic planes.  Skydive Dubai hot air balloons, paragliding and fireworks show also made everyone thrilled.

A welcome tent with coffee and dates, representing the way Arabs welcome their visitors, were set at the entry and trained falcons, symbol of the United Emirates, were available to everybody who wanted to take pictures with them.  The large restaurant tent was well decorated with Arabic artifacts, carpets and local culture ornaments.

Everything worked perfectly; comfortable team tents, medical support teams, computer / press room, friendly drop zone staff, timely transportation schedule, daily team leaders meetings, experienced pilots, organized manifest, and toilets always clean.  The “red carpet” was literally extended for the owners of the show, we the athletes, confirming the worldwide fame of the luxurious Arab hospitality and the warm welcome of the people from United Arab Emirates.

Congratulation all the winners and participants!  The skydivers all of the world will be forever thankful for the beautiful and amazing event!

Accuracy

Accuracy Jump
(Accuracy Parachuting)

Accuracy is an amazing skydiving modality which gives great gratification to its followers.

At a fir
st glance, accuracy may seem to operate only on the physical body; however, it plays a very important role on the athlete's mental and emotional development.  In this way, it allows its practitioners to achieve spiritual improvement and greater lucidity, speed of thought, logical reasoning, self-confidence and better reflexes due to the complex movements present in this modality's jumps.

Also, accuracy develops sensibility, memory and improvisation skills necessary to give the athlete the ability to maintain balance between extremes so that in situations which require calm moves or, on the other hand, radical moves, the athlete reacts in an equal manner, with decisive and coordinated movements indispensable to accuracy jumps.

Like a golf game; accuracy jumps requires more mental than physical abilities.  There is a single objective: hitting the target.

In order to reach a high technical level in this modality and the perfect equilibrium between mind and body, the athlete goes through a series of continuous trainings in jumping and physical, mental and respiratory exercises, like; meditation, Yoga, dancing, workouts, stretching, localized exercises and principally, medical accompaniment.  All these activities are necessary to help the accuracy jumper stand the mental and physical wear from training up to ten jumps within a seven hour period.  It is he who also packs his own parachute.  The jump requires constant, fast decisive and minute attitudes from the athlete, and for this, he needs much concentration, security, determination, coordination and physical fitness.

Being physically and mentally prepared, the athlete increases his self-confidence necessary for a good performance at the time of the competition.

The personal and inter-personal improvement of the accuracy jumper is always increasing due to the degree of balance between mind and body that he has developed, which allows the practice of this sport in a competitive but harmonious way, especially in relation of the all teammates and the members of the other teams, whose individuality is respected.

The practitioners of this modality are people eternal passionately with what they do.  For this reason, they are considered heroes by the skydiving community when they do the most beautiful dead-center hitting of the day.

Jumping from airplane by parachute from 4,000 feet and precisely land on the center of 5 metros of diameters target and hitting electronic dead-center of 2 centimeters, isn't a piece of cake for any accuracy jumper, but the game is very interesting, intelligent and has lots of fun!

Being an awarded-medals athlete in national and international competitions is an achievement that only enthusiasts and those who dream high can reach.

Don't be afraid of flying high to be happy! Life is quickly flying by!

I LOVE Accuracy jump!
