PARACHUTING: 5 different competitions:
1. Freefall Style.
event involves 3 jumps plus one for the final in which the best in each class are chosen.
film taken from the ground, necessary to enable to jury to formulate their opinion,
will be projected on a giant screen in the spectators’ area, to involve the public more
closely in the competitors’ performance. The competition will be held at the Aeritalia
airfield (see map). 10-seater PC-6’s will be used to take the athletes to an altitude
of 7,200 ft and they will perform the programme for this speciality one at a time.
2. Accuracy Landing.
This event involves 5 jumps plus one for the final in which the best in each class is
chosen. For many years this event has given the public an opportunity to watch parachutists
competing, as they land accurately on an electronic disc, and to get to know the sport, and it will
be held in a special area inside the Aeritalia airfield, close to the public stands.
10-seater PC-6’s will be used to take the athletes to an altitude of 3,300 ft and they will perform
the programme for this speciality in groups of 5.
3. Canopy Formation
This competition involves 4 jumps, and includes one of the most spectacular programmes, a rotation
of 4 elements, with a video camera; this exhibition will also use film shot from the ground, which will
be projected with a mixture of live air to ground shots, to involve the public totally in the event. This
event will use Pilatus Porters to carry 10 parachutists up to an altitude of 6000 ft from which they
will jump in 2 groups of 5; it will take place at the Aeritalia airfield.
4. Canopy Piloting
The last and most spectacular of the parachuting disciplines, the competition involves 6 jumps,
picking up speed in the air and building up power as they swoop over the artificial lake to create
the formation from a distance. The artificial lake will be positioned so that spectators will be able to
admire the athletes’ performance. Contestants will jump from a PC-6 with a safety partition between
competitors. The event will be held at the Aeritalia airfield.

5. Freestyle.
The competition will take place in 4 legs, divided into men’s and women’s categories; creating the
artistic aerobatic figures that makes this discipline so elegant. Each freestyle performer is accompanied
by an operator, who alternates live filming with technical comments (using live image transmitters).
The jury will judge the video and, then draw up the standings. The spectators will therefore be able
to appreciate the beauty of freeflight right from the grandstands.Competitors will be taken to an
altitude of 13,000 ft in a PC-6 and will jump in pairs. The event will be held at the Aeritalia airfield.
The experience of Aeroclub Torino will be backed up by the technical and organisational capabilities
of FIPAS (Federazione Italiana Paracadutismo Sportivo), which organised the recent IPC (Int.
Parachuting Commission) meeting in Florence.
FIPAS coordinates all the most important competitive parachuting groups.
FIPAS organises numerous national and international competitions. The “Sky Dream Center”
of Cumiana (Turin) will organise the Italian Parachuting Championships at the end of
April 2007. There are no less than 6 parachuting schools in Piedmont, the highest
territorial concentration in Italy [Vercelli, Casale, Acqui Terme, Novi Ligure, Cumiana
(Turin) and Garzigliana (Turin)]
Numerous well-known figures in the competitive parachuting arena work in Piedmont;
they include: Davide Moy (who competes for the French national team) lives, works
and trains in the province of Turin. In 2003 he won the World Championship in Gap
in the RV4 category, and was runner-up in the 2004 and 2006 Championships.
Luca Marchioro took 3rd place in the 2006 World Championship. Ivan Quadrio and Arrigo
Marco are the current Italian RV4 and RV8 Champions.
TEST EVENT
If the candidacy is successful, an open national event including the disciplines envisaged by the
WAG will have to be organised during 2008, i.e.: Freefall Style, Accuracy Landing, Canopy Formation,
Canopy Piloting, Freestyle.
