Classic Caipirinha Recipe
World Famous Brazilian Drink

Caipirinha (Portuguese pronunciation: [k-eye-per-reen-yah]),  is the world famous cocktail of Brazil.  It's a very sweet and smooth drink yet capable of fucking you up good!  It’s made with cachaça (pronounced [ka-shaa-suh]), super fine sugar, ice and lime.  No Cachaca?  Use Vodka or Rum

Cachaça is Brazil's most common distilledalcoholic beverage.  Like rum, cachaça is made from alcohol obtained from the fermentation of sugarcane juice that is afterwards distilled.

  How To Make The
   Perfect C
aipirinha

  •  Lime
  • Sugar
  • Ice cubes
  • Cachaça (or Vodka)
  •

     Directions:

    1.       Slice one lime and place in the glass.

    2.       Add three tablespoons of fine sugar.

    3.       Use the pestle to “muddle” the lime and fine sugar together.

Basically, you want to crush the lime so that they mix in well

with the sugar.  Crush until you got all of the juice out of the lime.

    5.       Pack crushed all ice in the glass all the way to the top.

    6.       Add Cachaça all the way to the top of the glass. (only about 2 oz.).

    7.       Use a larger glass or bottom of a cocktail shaker and put it over the

top of your drink.  Pick up with two hands and shake very well for

              at least 15 seconds.

    8.       Garnish with a wedge or slice of lime

Drink right away and have fun!

    Pitcher of Caipirinha

You can also make a pitcher of Caipirinha.  Figure out how many people and multiply amounts.  If you can’t find cachaça where you live, use good Vodka.  The drink will then be called Caipiroshka.  No Vodka?  Use white rum and you will have a Caipiríssima.

Caipirinhas can certainly be made by the pitcher and we've known some Brazilians that make them that way.  The important thing when doing this is to maintain the basic ratio of limes, sugar and cachaça. However, muddling can be a bit of a problem when working with this quantity.  Some have been known to muddle everything in a metal pan using a very large diameter dowel rod - something at least twice the diameter of a broomstick.  Be prepared for a real workout when working with this quantity.  Muddling should be done pretty vigorously to release the lime oil in the peel.  You also may want to consider gradually adding the sugar throughout the muddling process. After muddling, everything should be transferred to a pitcher before adding the cachaça, mixing thoroughly and, finally adding the ice if you so desire.
