Skydiving History

The first register of people who jumped of high heights using an equipment to cushion the fall occurred in China, has 2.000 years, for the Chinese, using a great umbrella, through which carried through jumps of enormous towers to enhance imperial parties.

But it was for return of 1,495 that Leonardo Vinci conceived the idea of a device that could come to save lives human beings when they had necessity to abandon old medieval towers in fire cases. He drew a parachute in pyramid form. This at the time did not arrive to be constructed, but he had great influence in the conception of the first equipment, besides having been recently reproduced in real and placed scale in use!

Andrew J. Garnerin, carried through the first jump of parachute in the year of 1797, in Paris, from a balloon the 600 meters of height. However, to certify itself of that ?engenhoca? would go to function, Garnerin launched his dog as guinea pig and later he jumped after that.

No longer XVII, some demonstrations using balloons and parachutes had century started to appear for skies of the Europe.

With the I World War the parachute starts to be adopted as equipment of rescue, being used by pilots of the new aircraft of combat.

Already in the II World War (1939-1945), the parachuting had its first boom, being used large-scale for launching of troops and supplements.

At the time round parachutes were used, that did not make possible control of direction for the parachutist, causing great difficulties in the landing.

From 1970, the skydiving passed then for a period of great evolution, when French and North American companies had started to invest in the safer development of equipment, comfortable and with better driven by power.

The rectangular parachutes appear then, offering to the practitioners of the sport more security and control in the navigation of the parachute, allowing to put it in the target and without impact.

In years 80 the Tandem Jump and developed method A.F.F was invented. (Accelerated Free Fall - fall-free sped up), what it made possible the diffusion of the sport. The skydiving became a competition sport and today it is offering diverse modalities. The first ones are Accuracy and Style Free Fall and then Formation in Free Fall, Relative Work of Canopy, FreeStyle, SkySurf, FreeFly, and Sport Accuracy among others.

After years of evolution, the skydive sport reached a level of security that makes possible any person, in good condition of health, to try it.
